Dr. Yin Sythan
President

Dr. Yin Sythan graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Health Sciences (UHS) in 1996. She practiced for a few years until 2000 in her hometown serving the people of the province of Kampong Cham. She also worked with the Ministry of Health for a year and then joined the faculty of dentistry at UHS. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Orthodontics in 2010 and further received a clinical fellowship training in Craniofacial Orthodontics at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taipei (Taiwan) in 2011 supported by the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation. She was the Head of the Orthodontics Department at UHS in 2014 and also Head of the Dentistry Clinic at UHS from 2016-2020. She served as the Vice President in the immediate past committee and is currently serving as the Honorable President of the CAO committee.

Dr. Mom Sovannrithy
Immediate Past President

Dr. Mom Sovannrithy was the 1st Former President of the Cambodia Association of Orthodontists (2016-2020). He is also one of the Founding members and the Consultant of the CAO. Dr. Sovannrithy is currently the  Senior lecturer for the Undergraduate Dentistry and Post-graduate Orthodontics programs at the University of Health Sciences (UHS). He graduated with a Doctor of  Dental  Surgery (DDS) in 1993 and further post-graduate Masters in Orthodontics in 2012 both from UHS. He worked as a government staff at the faculty of Odontostomatology at the University of Health Sciences from 1994 until now. In 2011 he got a Full professorship of the University of Health Sciences from His Majesty King  Norodom Sihakmony.

Dr. Mey Phoung
President-Elect

Prof. Mey Phoung is an orthodontist and educator at the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry, Phnom Penh. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, he has made significant contributions to the field of Orthodontics in Cambodia.

Prof. Phoung completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) at the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology, University of Health Sciences, Phnom Penh, in 1993. He furthered his expertise with a Post Graduate Diploma in Orthodontics (2004-2008), and a Master of Science in Orthodontics, awarded in 2011. His achievements were recognized when he was appointed Full Professor in 2010 by His Majesty the King of Cambodia.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Prof. Phoung has been a key figure in professional organizations. From 2018 onwards, he has served as the Vice President of the Cambodia Association of Orthodontists. Moreover, he is also a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists since 2018.

Prof. Phoung’s extensive teaching experience includes serving as a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Instructor in Orthodontics at the University of Health Sciences since 2004. He has also held roles as Deputy of the Orthodontic Department from 2001 to 2013 and as a Lecturer in Undergraduate Endodontics from 1995 to 2004.

His dedication to the field is further reflected in his role as a mentor, supervising the thesis for undergraduate and master’s orthodontic students. Prof. Phoung’s contributions to orthodontics and dental education continue to have a profound impact on the development of future dental professionals in Cambodia.

Dr. Kak Tola
Honorable Vice-President 1

Dr. Kak Tola graduated from the Faculty of Odontostomatology, University of Health Sciences, Cambodia in 2004. Later he got his master’s degree of science in orthodontics from the University of Health Sciences, Cambodia in 2013. He was a fellow in OGS field of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 2017. He worked as a dental practitioner at Kampuchea Dental Clinic from 2004 to 2012. He currently works at the Khmer Orthodontic Specialist Center and Kampuchea Dental Clinics as a board director. He is also an orthodontic lecturer and orthodontic clinical supervisor at the University of Health Sciences, Cambodia.

Dr. Seng Sochenda
Honorable Vice-President 2

Dr. Seng Sochenda graduated from the Faculty of Odonto-stomatology, University of Health Sciences, Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2006. Later she continued her study in Orthodontics again at the University of Health Sciences, Cambodia, and Obtained her Master’s Degree in year 2013. She worked as a General Practitioner and later as an Orthodontist in a Dental Clinic ( Sok Chea Dental Clinic ) from 2006 to 2016. From 2016 until now she is working at Flora Dental Care as an Orthodontist.

She is also an Orthodontic clinical supervisor at the University of Health Sciences, Cambodia.

Dr. Navdeep Bhusri
Honorable General Secretary & International Liaison Officer

Dr. Navdeep Bhusri is engaged as a specialist consultant to various dental/plastic clinics in Phnom Penh and teaches at the Orthodontics graduate program as a Lecturer and clinical supervisor at the University of Health Sciences (UHS). Dr. Bhusri attained his dental degree from Manipal College of Dental Sciences (India), a master’s in Orthodontics from the University of the East Dentistry (Philippines), a fellowship in Oral Implantology from Branemark Osseointegration Center (India), and a research/clinical fellowship in Craniofacial Orthodontics from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Taiwan).

Other than Orthodontics he is trained in handling complex Craniofacial/Cleft/Deformity/Orthognathic Surgery/Reconstruction cases, he works with the plastic surgery team for pre-surgical planning and pre/post-surgical care of such patients. His vision and goal are to raise the standards of orthodontic education, create public awareness for dentistry, and establish comprehensive cleft/craniofacial care centers around Southeast Asia. He has published in various peer-reviewed research journals, and reviews for APOS Trends in Orthodontics, the Indian Journal of Dental Research, and the Journal of Global Oral Health. His current research interests are Developmental biology; Non-destructive imaging; Regeneration/ Bioengineering in Craniofacial defects; Universal Oral Healthcare; Additive Manufacturing, and Accessible Healthcare Technologies.

He was recently awarded the IADR Centennial Award for Young Investigator in the IADR March 2024 meeting in New Orleans, USA. Dr. Navdeep was also awarded the Roberto Justus Rising Star Award by the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO) at the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) meeting in May 2024 in New Orleans, USA.

Dr. Sann Valine
Honorable Treasurer

Dr. Valine completed her doctor of dental surgery in 2003 and finished her master’s degree in Orthodontics in 2013, both from the Faculty of Odonto-stomatology, University of Health Sciences (Cambodia). She has served as a Dental Officer of the Oral Health Bureau at the Ministry of Health since 2006. She is a lecturer at the Postgraduate Orthodontics department, Faculty of Odonto-stomatology, University of Health Sciences. She is also a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontics.

 

Dr. Track Samoeun
Honorable Editor

Dr. Trak Sam Oeun is currently working for at Human Development Department of the Ministry of Health, Kingdom of Cambodia. He is the Editor of the Cambodia Association of Orthodontists.

 

Dr Trak Sam Oeun is also a part-time Orthodontist at a Private Dental Clinic in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

 

Dr. Trak Sam Oeun attained his dental degree University of Health Science (Cambodia) in 2004, and a Master’s in Orthodontics from the University of Health Sciences (Cambodia ) in 2013.

 

Dr Trak Sam Oeun has been involved in the Master Orthodontic Course at the University of Health Science, Reviewer team of the Nation curriculum of Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Doctor of Dental Surgery, National Clinical Practice Guide for Dentistry and some parts of the Pre-service Training and Education.
